Push Notification with AT&T Media Net

Postby iphone17 » Tue Feb 23, 2010 3:57 pm

Hi,

I have an iphone 3G 8Gb with AT&T. I had been on 3.0.1 until 2 weeks ago. Cydia stopped working and I had to restore the phone, so I decided to upgrade to 3.1.2. I used blackrain to jailbreak the phone. I didn't want to activate it through itunes, so I unlocked it using blackrain. The reason why I didn't activate it through itunes is because I didn't get my phone from AT&T. I bought it used because I didn't to get $30 data plan. Instead, I have been using APN changer (unlockit.co.nz) and $15 Media Net plan. I have had no problems with Push Notification on Textfree Unlimited with 3.0.1, but it doesn't work on 3.1.2.

I am willing to pay 6 bucks, but I saw somewhere in your instructions that Push won't work with WAP. I am not sure if Media Net is WAP or not.

Do you think Push would work if I activate my phone through itunes?

Thanks.

First, you should be able to activate through iTunes. Pushfix 2.0 would add the ability to see what is going on with your push notifications for diagnostic purposes.

If push notifications worked on 3.0.1 with that same plan configured on your phone, then they will work on 3.1.2.

It just isn't working now because you probably don't have a push certificate or are using a shared one.

BTW, MEdia Net is a weird one in that it is WAP, but they also allow many other protocols. Usually when a plan is WAP, it only allows port 80 and 443 for web traffic.

I found info on it here : http://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/AT&T_Mobil ... figuration

I can activate my phone through itunes, but I was worried then I might not be able to use Media Net. I saw some posts online where people said that iphone didn't show up on their accounts until they activated their iphones through itunes, and then they had problems with Media Net. Right now, when I log into my AT&T account, it doesn't show any phone. From your experience, have you come across anyone with similar situation?

Currently, I don't have any other pushfix apps on my phone as they tend to drain the battery and not always work.

I am not aware of anyone else using MEdia Net and you are the first one to make me aware of it. It does sound like you would need to be careful as I could see them detecting you had an iPhone and charging you the $30 instead. If they wanted, they could already detect that from the IMEI of your phone.

It might be best to stick with Pushfix 2.0 for your activation needs.

Don't confuse Pushfix 2.0 with all the other broken push fixes. They all use shared certificates and that is what causes the battery drain. I distribute unique certificates and your push will function *exactly* like real activation.

You say the others "do not always work". The fact is that they never work. The minute you have more than one phone using a certificate, notifications will start disappearing. They may work intermittently and then they will stop altogether.
